Akilah is the Founder of the BIPOC Relational Healing institute. She is passionate about building a world in which BIPOC can sit in their authenticity and abundance. Akilah coined the term "Relational Privilege" which refers to the characteristics that allow some persons to feel safe to be intimate and relational. She notes that race based systemic trauma and historical trauma can compromise or limit BIPOC's ability to be relational. Being Relational is difficult in spaces where there is consistent harm.
As such, her work and the work of the institute are designed to address and build Relational Privilege. Akilah is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, a Brainspotting Therapist and a BIPOC Relational Healing Facilitator. She has received training in various areas including Somatic Experiencing, Playback Theatre, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Neuroscience, Compassion Focused Therapy, and Internal Family Systems Therapy.
