The BIPOC Relational Healing Institute is invested in creating safe spaces for BIPOC (Black , Indigenous and People of Colour) to address the impact of historical and systemic trauma on their psychosocial well being and mental health. One of our primary aims is to consider the impact of discrimination, stigma and prejudice on the relationships of BIPOC.
BIPOC relationships have unique needs because minority stress and racialized trauma can compromise one's ability to feel safe enough to connect to the world and others. The institute centers these experiences and creates opportunities for BIPOC couples and partners to interrogate the impact of systemic trauma on relationality and intimacy.
BIPOC individuals are also given space to examine the impact of systemic harm on their lives. Given the high rates of psycho-emotional distress among BIPOC, this too is a central concern for the institute.
Additionally, the center is a “site of imagination”, creating opportunities for therapists to ground their counselling work by creating new ways of working with BIPOC through intense reflection, interrogation and growth.
